From 6 - 30 June 2022, we’re harnessing our community of supporters to help us continue transforming lives through hospitality. We're hoping to raise $25K through tax-deductible donations which will be matched, dollar-for-dollar thanks to some of Scarf’s legendary funding and hospitality partners, allowing us to raise a total of $50K.

Our Principal Partners are the Wetherall Family Foundation and Tip Jar Fund. Further dollar-matching is possible thanks to generous support from Daylesford and Hepburn Mineral Springs Co, Loafer Bread, Mount Zero Olives and Stomping Ground Brewing Co.

2019 Scarf graduate Ngot is now a Duty Manager at Bodriggy Brewing Company*. Video production: Roger That Pictures.

*Ngot and Max's interviews were filmed at Bodriggy Brewing Company on Wednesday 1 June 2022. The interviews were conducted to help us demonstrate how Scarf's model breaks down employment barriers for our participants. This video has been created as part of a series (thanks to support from
Bank Australia) to complement an independent evaluation report, more detail from which is shared and linked to in the below section.

Outcomes & Social Impact

Scarf is almost 12 years old, and we've seen close to 300 young people graduate from our programs since 2010. During a recent independent evaluation project, 65 Scarf graduates took part in surveys, focus groups and interviews to help us better understand our program outcomes and social impact.

.
Of the graduates who took part in the survey:

- 91% learned a lot about working in a hospitality business

- 71% learned a lot about their rights as a worker in Australia
- 75% said doing a Scarf program helped improve their English
- 82% said that participating in Scarf improved their job seeking confidence a lot
- 79% agreed or strongly agreed that doing Scarf helped them get a job
- 93% strongly agreed they would recommend the program to other young people
- 89% strongly agreed that they felt welcomed at Scarf
- 86% strongly agreed that they felt they belonged at Scarf
- 91% agreed or strongly agreed that because they did the Scarf program, they now know people they can go to for advice about working in Australia

One graduate said:

Without Scarf I think I will be still looking for a job till now. Scarf was the best thing that happened to me during living in Australia, and I will be forever thankful for Scarf team as they helped me to be confident with myself and I found the job straightway after doing the scarf program. THANK YOU THANK YOU for all the hard work that you did. Scarf was like the lighthouse for my life.

Why do we need to raise $50K?

It is essential we raise this amount as Scarf continues to navigate the pandemic and its enormous impacts on our operations. Our ability to self-generate income through Scarf Dinners and events has been greatly compromised in the past two years, and we currently have a significant reliance on fundraising, donations and grants in order to continue delivering our mission. Reaching our fundraising target will allow us to provide crucial Wellbeing and Job Readiness support to the approximately 40 young people who will engage with Scarf programs and post-program support in the 2022/23 financial year. Funds raised will also allow us to expand on our paid work experience program, which is being piloted from May 2022 to ensure all Scarf graduates have the opportunity to put their newly learned skills into practice in real businesses, while receiving award wages (paid by Scarf). See an example of how partner venues, such as The Everleigh have been approached..

How does the dollar-matching work?

The following businesses and organisations have pledged generously ahead of the campaign, which will allow us to match all online donations up to $25,000 so we can reach our target of $50,000. Keep an eye on our socials (Instagram and Facebook) to learn more about them! Every day during the campaign, we'll be tallying up the previous day's donations and adding the relevant matched donation from one of our Principal Partners or Friends of Scarf, so that our fundraising tally reflects this wonderful generosity.
