Autumn Scarf Dinners head to South India… via Fitzroy!

It’s the new year and we’re super excited to announce that Scarf Dinners are heading to The Rochey, 202 Johnston St, Fitzroy, for Autumn Scarf ’19. The season will run on Tuesdays from 26 March – 21 May and a two-course set menu is $45 per head, with Scarf trainees and mentors looking after the front of house and The Rochey chefs doing the cooking.

Book Now.

Executive Chef Mischa Tropp has previously run kitchen takeovers at establishments Etta, Host and Tomboy where the popularity of his South Indian-inspired cuisine saw him enlisted on a permanent basis by The Rochey in May 2018. The kitchen, under the direction of Tropp, has drawn on his Keralan family heritage to produce a Scarf menu including an entree of spiced roast pumpkin in crisp wheat pastry with mint chutney’ and main dishes such as ‘steamed mussels in a Goan tomato-based curry’ and ‘ghee roast chicken in tamarind and Kashmiri chilli curry’, all served with cabbage thoran, eggplant achar and rose matar rice.

For those who like their sides, there’ll be flaky parota bread, green chilli poppadoms and green mango pickle for days. Rest assured this season of Scarf Dinners will be full of flavour! There are vegetarian options available in each course, and dietary requirements can be catered for – simply note these when you make your booking.

The 2019 Autumn season will see another eight young people seeking protection, and those from refugee and migrant backgrounds participate in mentoring, training and paid work experience with Scarf. The knowledge, skills, confidence and connections they’ll gain will greatly assist them in moving onto jobs in the hospitality industry, as it has done with the 208 young people who’ve graduated from Scarf programs since 2010. Seventy percent of Scarf graduates move on to meaningful employment at places like Garden State Hotel, The Sofitel, Top Paddock and Two Birds Brewing.

We look forward to seeing you at a Scarf Dinner soon!
