Skill Up with Scarf is designed so that participants can learn basic hospitality skills, grow their knowledge of the hospitality industry in Melbourne, and get ready to launch into employment thanks to awesome, practical job readiness workshops and valuable certificate training. And because coffee is such an integral part of Melbourne hospitality culture, it includes one session of hands-on espresso coffee training thanks to our partnership with Five Senses Coffee. . . Why take part in Skill Up with Scarf? Training includes Introduction to Melbourne's hospitality industry - what jobs are out there and the best way to apply (we'll cover online applications, as well as role-playing how to apply for hospitality jobs in person) Hospitality resume workshop with heaps of tips and tricks, and one-to-one support to create an awesome resume that highlights your strengths Introduction to Front of House service skills, including 3 plate carry and basic food and drink knowledge How to rock a trial shift at a hospitality venue and make a great impression Interview training / round-robin interview practice session with hospitality professionals, followed by a group feedback session (individual feedback also provided in one-to-one follow ups) Workshop on Understanding your Work Rights and Responsibilities in Australia (including information about award wages and what to do if you think your employer is treating you unfairly) Learn how to make a perfect milk-based espresso coffee in a hands-on session with legendary trainers from Five Senses Coffee Free ongoing access to Typsy (1000's of hospitality training videos from the world's best hospitality instructors) Question and Answer session with Scarf graduates and hospitality professionals Opportunity to work a paid trial shift at one of Scarf's partner venues. This will help you increase your skills and confidence, and give you some practical work experience to list on your newly created resume! The wonderful hospitality professionals volunteering their time to take part in sessions such as the Q & A panel and practice interview round robin come from businesses including Mount Zero Olives, Five Senses Coffee, Starward and The Everleigh Optional training Thanks to our partnership with Complete Hospitality Training, all trainees who take part in any Scarf program have the option to undertake free accredited certificate training including the Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate* and Food Handling Certificate *There are no sessions in Skill Up with Scarf which require trainees to taste, learn about or serve any type of alcohol. The Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate training is optional, and will allow graduates to widen their post-program employment opportunities to licensed venues. This practical support includes one-to-one assistance with updating resumes and applying for jobs, as well as access to the Scarf Alumni private Facebook group where we share training tips, job vacancies and other up-skilling opportunities. . To Apply We have up to 16 trainee places available for young people (18 - 28 years old) from asylum seeker, refugee or migrant backgrounds who are keen to work in hospitality and facing barriers to employment. Covid-19 Safety As stated above, program dates and venues are subject to change due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In line with Scarf's Workplace Health and Safety Policy, we can only accept vaccinated applicants due to the planned face-to-face training sessions and paid work experience / trial shift which are core parts of the program.
