Becoming a Scarf Champion allows you to play a critical role in a young person significantly growing their knowledge, skills, confidence, networks, and ultimately, their job readiness. At Scarf, we provide training, mentoring and paid work experience opportunities to young people from diverse cultural backgrounds and strive to create an inclusive, culturally-safe space which promotes learning and growth. Scarf unlocks opportunities for our trainees, who face significant barriers to employment, and we're proud to see 72% of graduates in jobs within 6 months. We can only do this work with support from the community.

Scarf’s proven model and continued success in securing meaningful employment for graduates as a result of their involvement in the program was key to our decision to become Scarf Champions. Scarf Dinners and events are always a highlight - it’s such a great way to introduce Scarf to family and friends, and the opportunity to engage with trainees and see the impact of our support is truly gratifying.

Scarf programs change lives. Ngot was unemployed for a year before coming to Scarf. He graduated in early 2019 and connected with Bodriggy Brewing Co via a Scarf mentor. He began working at Bodriggy in mid-2019 as a casual food runner and bar back, and he's now a full-time Duty Manager. Video: Roger Ungers

Becoming a Scarf Champion was a clear and obvious way Five Senses could contribute towards our mission of Impacting People Positively. Empowering each cohort of Scarf trainees into hospitality is a wonderful thing to be a part of. Whether it is a bridge while the trainees improve language skills or get other accreditations, or a full time new career trajectory in hospitality, it is making an impact on each ones' life, and their transition into Australia much smoother and hopefully more successful.

Through their innovative model, partnering with a different venue for each seasonal program, Scarf is simultaneously enabling community integration, more welcoming and inclusive employment practice, and offering the most important thing that anyone can ever be offered – real paid employment, combined with holistic wraparound support. And somehow, they manage this with their tiny, tiny team. We are very proud to walk alongside Scarf and be a champion and we’re in awe of what they do.
