Programs & Partnerships
Scarf Dinners are a core part of our program offering, enabling trainees to gain front-of-house paid work experience in a top-notch Melbourne venue. Spring Scarf '22 is running in partnership with The Mulberry Group, with Scarf Dinners taking place at Liminal, 161 Collins St, Melbourne. Scarf Dinners allow trainees to put their newly learned skills and knowledge into play in a hands-on, supportive work environment.
Scarf works with a Trauma-Informed Approach with a strong focus on Trainee Wellbeing and Boosting Job-Readiness. Scarf Dinners are a core part of our programs, enabling trainees and graduates the opportunity to gain front-of-house paid work experience in a top-notch Melbourne venue. We're able to run events thanks to partnerships with big-hearted hospitality businesses.

Food
Expect a $49 two-course set menu (entree and main, with three choices in each course) designed and cooked by head chef of Hazel, Oliver Edwards, and his experienced team. Hazel source ingredients from small-scale producers that their chefs know, trust and respect, who have a commitment to quality and sustainability. Trainees
Scarf trainees are resilient young people seeking protection and those from refugee and migrant backgrounds who are facing barriers to work. Many have experienced long-term unemployment and for most trainees, Scarf is their first taste of paid employment in Australia. The young people working front-of-house during these Scarf Dinners are trainees in the Spring Scarf '22 10-week Seasonal Program, and will be paid the Restaurant Industry Award wage for their work during Scarf Dinners, thanks to support from Bennelong Foundation and Diageo.
Following their involvement in a Scarf program, graduates are provided with up to six months of post-program support from Scarf in order to give them the best chance at securing employment beyond the program. We are proud that 70% of participants from our 10-week Seasonal Programs are in employment within six months of graduating.

Mentors
Scarf mentors are hospitality professionals who volunteer their time to play a crucial role during Scarf Dinners. They are paired up with a trainee (generally in a one-to-one ratio) and give guidance and support as the trainees build their skills and confidence serving you, our wonderful diners. Mentors also provide networks into the hospitality industry.

Drinks
We have a great drinks list thanks to generous support from our hospitality partners including Unico Zelo Wines, Stomping Ground Brewing Co, Four Pillars Gin, Starward Whisky, Campari Australia, Daylesford & Hepburn Mineral Springs Co, The Everleigh Bottling Co, Five Senses Coffee and Larsen & Thompson Tea. Please note, Scarf Dinners are not BYO.

Trainee Wages
Scarf is committed to remunerating our participants for all work undertaken during Scarf Dinners and associated work experience shifts. Our trainees and graduates are paid Restaurant Industry Award wages, directly by Scarf, and in doing this we show our trainees and graduates that they are valued, and demonstrate what fair working conditions look like in Australia.
.
Thanks to funding support from Bennelong Foundation and Diageo's 'Raising The Bar' initiative, we'll pay Restaurant Industry award wages to the trainees who work during these dinners. Their work experience during Spring Scarf Dinners at Liminal can then be added to graduates' resumes as relevant, local employment (with a Scarf referee); a lack of which is consistently recognised as a significant employment barrier in research about employment opportunities for newly arrived people.

Update 13/10/22: While isolation is no longer a legal requirement for anyone diagnosed with COVID-19, staying at home protects the people around you and the broader community from COVID-19. If you have a confirmed case of COVID-19, are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms, or are awaiting a PCR test result, please do not attend Scarf Dinners. We will consider refunds in exceptional circumstances; please communicate with us as soon as possible via [email protected]. Should any unforeseen COVID-19 restrictions, or illness within our team get in the way of us running a Scarf Dinner, you will be offered the option of a refund or the option to re-book.
