Wednesday 3 November Update:

The Winter Scarf '21 Seasonal Training Program was extended due to Melbourne's recent lockdowns; it has been running remotely since early August. Thanks to the generosity of Stomping Ground Brewery & Beer Hall, we've now secured two new Scarf Dinner dates to ensure our trainees can gain further paid work experience whilst translating their newly learned skills in a real-world restaurant setting before they graduate.
These Scarf Dinners will be our final events for 2021, and will run on Wednesday 10 November and Wednesday 17 November with limited tables available. We're working hard to accomodate the diners who'd booked in for the Winter Scarf Dinners which had to be postponed, and if we have any availability once this has happened, we'll re-open our bookings here. In the meantime, please sign up to our newsletter if you'd like to keep in touch with Scarf.

We've published a news piece with a comprehensive update on our extended Winter Scarf '21 program here.

We’re partnering with
Stomping Ground Brewery & Beer Hall, 100 Gipps St, Collingwood for Winter Scarf ’21. Winter Scarf Dinners will run on the following Wednesday nights with Scarf trainees and mentors looking after the front of house and Stomping Ground Brewery & Beer Hall chefs doing the cooking. The Stomping Ground Brewery & Beer Hall chefs have designed a $45 two course set menu (entrée and main) which they'll be cooking up on the night. Entrées include some seriously warming Winter dishes like French onion soup with gruyere toastie and Potato and leek croquettes with chipotle aioli. Mains include Confit pork belly with potato Boulangere and charred leeks, Pan-fried barramundi with romesco sauce, herbed marinated zucchini, fennel and pickled red onion and Miso-baked cauliflower with celeriac puree, shaved hazelnut, pickled beetroot and watercress salad.

NB: there are multiple choices in each course, including vegetarian options. Most dietary requirements can be accommodated, please include details in the 'Notes' section when you book. Email [email protected] with any specific queries before making your booking.

There's also a fabulous drinks list thanks to some of Scarf's wonderful partnerships! We'll be serving wine from Unico Zelo & Harvest, cocktails from Four Pillars, Starward, Campari Australia and Casa Mariol, mineral water and soft drinks from the legends at Daylesford and Hepburn Mineral Springs Co. There'll even be some special "no-booze" cocktails on offer. And of course there'll be plenty of Stomping Ground Brewing Co. beer flowing!

Bookings Policy

As per Scarf's booking policy, your prepaid “tickets” to this Scarf Dinner are non-refundable. This policy was put in place to protect us from last minute cancellations which compromise Scarf's viability as a sustainable social enterprise. If you’re unable to honour your booking, you’re welcome to pass on your ticket/s to a friend. Please will communicate this change to us ahead of time via [email protected].

Covid Safety

As per Scarf's Covid-safety processes, we require the name and contact phone number of each person who's dining with us on the night, so please send through this information once you have made your booking. We will consider refunds in exceptional circumstances, and should Covid restrictions get in the way of us running this Scarf Dinner at full capacity (or if we need to postpone), you will be offered the option of a refund or the option to re-book. To update us with details of all diners joining you for this booking, and for any other booking enquiries or requests, please communicate with us via the Scarf Bookings email address- [email protected].

Scarf and Stomping Ground Brewery & Beer Hall are working together to ensure strict Covid-safety processes are in place throughout this season of Scarf Dinners, including thorough sanitisation of tables and menus, spaced bookings, capping of diner numbers and mask-wearing in line with current DHHS directions. If you have a confirmed case of Covid, are displaying any Covid symptoms, have recently visited an exposure site or are awaiting a Covid test result, please do not attend Scarf Dinners.

To ensure the safety of our community, Scarf Dinners are operating in accordance with the Victorian Government's current restrictions relating to restaurants and cafes. All Scarf staff, mentors and trainees, as well as Stomping Ground staff who will be working during these events, are fully vaccinated. Diners must present proof of vaccination status upon entry to the venue. Diners who cannot provide proof that they are fully vaccinated will not be able to attend Scarf Dinners.

More detail

The Winter Scarf ’21 Seasonal Program will see another eight young people participate in training, mentoring and paid work experience with Scarf. The knowledge, skills, confidence and connections they’ll gain will greatly assist them in moving into mainstream employment. To date, 268 young people have graduated from Scarf programs since 2010 and 72% of them have moved into meaningful jobs within six months, at places like Garden State Hotel, Siglo, Two Birds Brewing, Free to Feed, Bibendum Wine Co, Cumulus Inc. and IDES. For more information about Scarf's social impact, head here

Scarf trainees are resilient young people seeking protection and those from refugee and migrant backgrounds who’ve faced barriers to employment. In taking part in Scarf's 10-week Seasonal Program, they’ll be trained in a range of hospitality and other job readiness skills, preparing them for future work in hospitality or other industries. When the 10-week Seasonal Program of training and Scarf Dinners is over, Scarf provides up to six months of post-program Wellbeing and Job Readiness Support to new graduates. This support is delivered through a trauma-informed approach, with a priority on trainee wellbeing and boosting job readiness

During a season of Scarf Dinners, trainees are paid Restaurant Industry Award wages to put their newly learned skills to the test in real, busy dinner services in awesome Melbourne venues. During Scarf Dinners, trainees are supported by Scarf mentors - hospitality professionals who volunteer to share skills, knowledge and networks.

This will be the second time we've run Scarf Dinners at Stomping Ground Brewery & Beer Hall! Back in Autumn 2018, in the early days of our partnership with Stomping Ground, we ran a very successful season at this wonderful venue and we're so excited to get back in there!

We can't wait to welcome you to a Winter Scarf Dinner!
