Scarf Dinners are heading for Higher Ground

We’re super excited to be heading to Higher Ground in Melbourne’s CBD for Spring Scarf ’18. The season will run on Tuesdays from 25 September – 20 November and a two-course set menu is $45 per head, the proceeds of which go directly to funding the Scarf training and employment program.

Nathan Toleman of The Mulberry Group and co-owner of Higher Ground Melbourne is a Scarf Ambassador and there has been a long-standing relationship between Scarf, Toleman and his fellow hospitality partners.

“We have partnered with Scarf for dinners as far back as 2011 at Three Bags Full, our staff have mentored in past programs and we have employed Scarf graduates over the years at Top Paddock. We believe passionately in the work Scarf does so the opportunity to partner with them again at Higher Ground has the whole team super excited,” commented Toleman.

The Higher Ground team have created a menu with signature flair including entrees of ‘Ceviche of seasonal fish, green tomatoes gazpacho, chorizo picanté and New season broadbean leaves agrodolce, egg yolk, almond, shaved manchego’ and a main dish of ‘Slow braised flat iron steak, dashi stock, parsnip purée, pickled carrot, parsley.’ There are vegetarian options available in each course, and dietary requirements can be catered for – simply note these when you make your booking.

The 2018 Spring season will see another eight young people seeking protection, and those from refugee and migrant backgrounds participate in mentoring, training and paid work experience with Scarf. The knowledge, skills, confidence and connections they’ll gain will greatly assist them in moving onto jobs in the hospitality industry, as it has done with the 188 young people who’ve graduated from Scarf programs since 2010. Seventy percent of Scarf graduates go on to find ongoing meaningful employment at places like Garden State Hotel, The Sofitel, Top Paddock and Two Birds Brewing.
