Scarf's mid-year fundraising appeal ran from 10 - 30 June 2021. Every dollar raised up to $20K was matched by the generous Wetherall Family Foundation. Thank you to everyone who made a donation of any size - you helped us reach $40K and we are incredibly grateful! These funds will allow us to provide awesome training, mentoring, paid work experience and job readiness support to 50 young people this year.
.
2021 started out pretty well for Scarf, considering last year was the most challenging one our organisation has ever faced! This year, thanks to our awesome hospitality partnerships with the likes of Five Senses Coffee, we've already run two short courses, Skill Up with Scarf in March and Tasting Plate for Women in May, which focussed on hands-on hospitality skills and practical job readiness workshops. These programs allowed 25 young people to graduate from Scarf programs with increased skills, knowledge, networks and confidence. Five of these recent graduates are already in jobs! And, despite the May/June lockdown setting us back, we're still hopeful we can roll out our 2021 Operational Plan as planned (with a few date changes of course!) and transform the lives of at least 50 young people in 2021.

With the $40,000 we're aiming to raise during this campaign, we'll be able to provide 1,000 hours of wellbeing and job readiness support to 50 Scarf trainees (that's 20 hours each!), ensuring that they have the best chance at gaining employment following their training with us. Scarf trainees - young people from protection seeking, refugee and migrant backgrounds - are disproportionately impacted by COVID, with already complex barriers to employment exacerbated by lockdowns and their effect on casual workers. But our small team is working harder than ever to ensure our trainees can still gain the opportunities needed to break out of unemployment and begin their working lives in Australia, with ongoing guidance from the supportive Scarf community.

.

But we need your help to do this work!

Please donate so that we're able to continue our important work with some of the most vulnerable young people in our community.

Matched funding details:

In May, the Wetherall Family Foundation reached out to ask how they could help Scarf achieve our mission to transform young lives through hospitality. We let them know about our mid-year fundraising campaign, and asked if they'd be keen to increase the social impact from our very generous supporters. They said yes! (Absolute legends.) The foundation is matching every dollar that is donated up to $20,000, so if you can help us get to $20K by 30 June, together we will have raised an incredible $40,000. This will allow us to provide 1,000 hours of wellbeing and job readiness support to 50 Scarf trainees (that's 20 hours each.) Epic!

Every day during the campaign, we'll be tallying up the previous day's donations and adding the relevant matched donation from the Wetherall Family Foundation so that our fundraising tally reflects this wonderful generosity.

If you'd like to talk to us about matched donations, corporate support, private donations or anything of that nature, please contact Scarf Co-founder & CEO Hannah - [email protected]
